3M VHB 5930P is a black, double-sided acrylic foam tape with a modified acrylic adhesive and a conformable closed-cell foam core, 0.8mm thick, supplied here as slit rolls, cut in-house to the widths and lengths shown on this page; other sizes can be cut on request. The tape is carried on a white polycoated kraft paper liner. It is used to bond nameplates, trim, electronic displays and panel-to-frame joints, including most powder-coated paints, and can replace rivets, welds and screws. It is not a gap-filling sealant: surfaces should be clean, dry and flat, and the joint should keep the tape in compression. Specifications: 3M VHB 5930P, black acrylic foam, total thickness 0.8mm (without liner); modified acrylic adhesive on a very conformable acrylic foam core; white polycoated kraft paper liner, which keeps its dimensions when the tape is kiss-cut. Temperature: up to 149 °C for short-term exposure (up to 4 hours) and up to 93 °C for long-term use. 3M supplies this product in standard widths from 12.7mm to 1168mm and roll lengths of 33m and above; the rolls listed here are slit and rewound in-house to the widths and lengths shown; other sizes can be cut on request.

Can this tape replace rivets, welds or screws?
Yes — 3M lists VHB 5930P as a replacement for mechanical fasteners such as rivets, welding and screws on painted and powder-coated surfaces. It is not a gap-filling sealant: surfaces should be clean, dry and flat, and the joint should keep the tape in compression. High heat, heavy static load or very rough surfaces still call for mechanical fastening.
How soon does the bond reach full strength?
This tape is pressure sensitive, so it bonds on contact and gives immediate handling strength. The values 3M publishes are measured at 22 °C after a 72-hour dwell time. Allow at least 72 hours after assembly before applying the design load; for low-temperature application, contact us to confirm.
